Say & Read: Kids Learn to Read

Last updated: July 27, 2026

This Privacy Policy describes how Lion, LLC ("Lion," "we," "us," or "our") handles information in connection with the Say & Read: Kids Learn to Read mobile application (the "App").

1. The Short Version

Say & Read collects no personal information from anyone, adult or child. The App has no accounts, no advertising, no analytics, and no tracking. Your child's voice is processed entirely on your device by a speech-recognition model that ships inside the App, and it never leaves the device. We could not read, hear, or sell your child's words even if we wanted to, because they are never sent to us or to anyone else.

2. Children's Privacy (COPPA)

Say & Read is designed for young children used together with a parent or guardian, and we take the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) seriously. Our approach is simple: the App does not collect, store on our systems, or disclose any personal information from children, so there is nothing for a parent to consent to, review, or request deletion of on our side.

If you believe the App has collected personal information from a child in a way this policy does not describe, contact us at [email protected] and we will investigate promptly.

3. Speech and the Microphone

When your child holds the talk button, the App records audio using the device microphone. That audio is transcribed on the device by a speech-recognition model bundled inside the App. The audio is kept only temporarily in the App's private storage on your device, where it is automatically replaced by the next recording; it is never uploaded, never sent to Lion or any third party, and never used for any purpose other than showing your child their words. The voices that read words aloud are generated on the device by Apple's built-in speech synthesis.

4. Information Stored on Your Device Only

To make the App work, a small settings file is saved in the App's private storage on your device. It may include the child's first name (if a parent chooses to enter one, so the App can greet the child and spell the name correctly), the chosen voice, and the chosen background. This information stays on the device, is not transmitted anywhere, and is deleted when you delete the App.

5. What We Do Not Collect

6. Device Permissions

The App asks for microphone access (to hear your child) and, on some devices, speech recognition access (Apple's label for the transcription capability, which the App performs on the device). Both permissions are used solely for the App's core function and can be revoked at any time in your device Settings; without them, the talk button will not work but nothing else is affected.

7. Purchases (Future Versions)

The App currently offers no purchases. If optional purchases are introduced in a future version, they will be processed by Apple through your App Store account behind a parental gate. To validate purchases we may use RevenueCat, a purchase-infrastructure service that would receive purchase receipts and an anonymous app-generated identifier; it would never receive your child's voice, words, name, or any personal information. This policy will be updated when purchases are introduced.

8. Data Security

The most effective data protection is not holding data. Because the App sends nothing to Lion, there is no server-side copy of anything your child says or does in the App to secure, breach, or subpoena. Information on your device is protected by your device's own security (passcode, encryption).

9. Your Rights and Choices

Because we hold no personal data about you or your child, there is nothing for us to access, correct, export, or erase; all App data lives on your device and is removed by deleting the App. Parents with any privacy question or concern can reach us at the address below and we will respond promptly.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be posted on this page with an updated date. If a future change ever involved collecting personal information from children, we would provide notice and obtain verifiable parental consent as required by COPPA before doing so.
