Please read these Terms of Use carefully before using the Gout Food List & Scanner app.
These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the Gout Food List & Scanner mobile application (the "App") provided by Lion, LLC ("Lion," "we," "us," or "our"). By using the App, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the App.
1. About the App
Gout Food List & Scanner is a food reference app that provides information about the purine content of common foods, presented as simple purine-level categories for people following a low purine diet. The core food list and grocery list do not require an account or login. The App also offers an optional camera Scan feature and an optional "Ask AI" feature, both unlocked by an auto-renewable subscription (see Section 6, "Subscriptions and Purchases"). It is designed as an educational tool.
2. Eligibility
The App is intended for users aged 18 and older. By using the App, you represent that you are at least 18 years old.
3. License
Lion grants you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the App strictly in accordance with these Terms.
4. Medical and Nutritional Disclaimer
The App is provided solely for educational and informational purposes. It does not provide medical advice, diagnosis, treatment, nutritional counseling, or professional healthcare services.
You acknowledge and agree that:
- Purine content varies with the specific product, portion size, preparation, and cooking method, and published values differ between sources; the App presents general purine-level categories, not precise measurements
- The information in the App should not be relied upon for medical or health-related decisions
- You should always consult a qualified healthcare professional regarding dietary changes, medical conditions, or symptoms
- The App does not create a doctor-patient or other professional relationship between you and Lion, LLC
The optional Scan and "Ask AI" features use automated artificial intelligence, provided by third-party services (currently Anthropic and OpenAI), to estimate the purine level of a food from a photo, ingredient list, or barcode, or from a food name or description you type. AI can misread labels, misidentify foods, and produce incomplete, inaccurate, or incorrect results, and product formulations change over time. These results are educational estimates only, are not medical or dietary advice, and must not be relied upon for medical, dietary, or health decisions. Always check the actual product label, and consult a qualified healthcare professional before making dietary decisions related to gout or any other medical condition.
5. Health and App Store Compliance
The App is a general wellness and educational tool only. It is not a medical device and is not regulated, cleared, or approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) or any other regulatory authority.
The App:
- Does not provide medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment
- Does not claim to prevent, cure, or treat any disease or medical condition
- Does not replace professional medical consultation
If you believe you may have a medical condition or are experiencing a health emergency, contact a qualified healthcare professional or emergency services immediately.
6. Subscriptions and Purchases
The App's camera Scan feature and "Ask AI" feature require an optional auto-renewable subscription. The core food list and grocery list do not require a separate account or login.
- Plans and price: The subscription is offered as a monthly plan and an annual plan at the prices shown in the App (currently $4.99 USD per month or $29.99 USD per year; pricing may vary by region and is confirmed at the time of purchase). Payment is charged to your Apple ID account upon confirmation of purchase.
- Free trial: Each plan may include a 3-day free trial. Trial eligibility is determined by Apple and generally applies to first-time subscribers. If you do not cancel at least 24 hours before the free trial ends, the subscription automatically converts to a paid subscription at the applicable rate. If you are not eligible for a trial, payment is charged upon confirmation of purchase.
- Auto-renewal: The subscription renews automatically for the same period unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours before the end of the current period.
- Managing your subscription: You can view, manage, or cancel your subscription, and turn off auto-renewal, in your device's App Store account settings after purchase.
- Restoring purchases: If you reinstall the App or use another device with the same Apple ID, you can restore an active subscription from within the App.
- Refunds: Purchases are processed by Apple and are subject to Apple's refund policies. Except where required by law, fees already paid are non-refundable.
Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement, available at apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula/, also applies to your use of the App to the extent it does not conflict with these Terms.
7. Intellectual Property
All content, data, features, and intellectual property related to the App are owned by Lion, LLC or its licensors and are protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws. You may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, or lease any part of the App without prior written consent.
8. User Conduct
You agree to use the App only for its intended purpose as a food reference tool and not for any unlawful or unauthorized purpose.
9. Third-Party Services and Links
The App may link to third-party websites or services. Lion does not control and is not responsible for third-party content or practices. Your use of third-party services is governed by their respective terms.
10. Disclaimer of Warranties
The App is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied. Lion expressly disclaims all warranties, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement.
11. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Lion, LLC shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to loss of profits, data, health outcomes, or goodwill, arising out of or related to your use of the App.
In no event shall Lion's total liability exceed one hundred dollars ($100 USD).
12. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Lion, LLC and its officers, members, employees, and agents from any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, or expenses (including attorneys' fees) arising from your use of the App or violation of these Terms.
13. Dispute Resolution
Any dispute arising from these Terms shall be resolved through binding individual arbitration administered by the American Arbitration Association under its Consumer Arbitration Rules. You agree to waive any right to participate in a class action lawsuit or class-wide arbitration.
You may opt out of this arbitration agreement by sending written notice to [email protected] within 30 days of first accepting these Terms.
14. Governing Law
These Terms shall be governed by the laws of the State of Illinois, without regard to its conflict-of-law principles. For disputes not subject to arbitration, you agree to the exclusive jurisdiction of the state or federal courts located within the State of Illinois.
15. Severability
If any provision of these Terms is found invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions shall continue in full force and effect.
16. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be posted on this page. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
17. Entire Agreement
These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and Lion regarding the App.
